Photo by Edison Bank director in "National Geographic"
DR. HOWARD Dr. Howard Sheridan's photograph, "Sauna Break in Yellowstone National Park," is featured in the September 2008 issue of "National Geographic." Dr. Howard Sheridan, a founding director of Edison National Bank and chairman of its holding company, Edison Bancshares, Inc., has achieved what is the lifelong dream of many professional photographers. His photograph, "Sauna Break in Yellowstone National Park," is featured in the September 2008 issue of "National
Geographic."
The photo, SHERIDAN
which features two bison warming up in the hot springs on a minus 10-degree day, was chosen from among more than 24,000 entries as the English-language winner, animal category, of "National Geographic's" 2007 International Photography Contest. An expert panel of judges, including "National Geographic" editors, reviewed the photographs for creativity and photographic quality. Judges noted that Sheridan's image mixed two Yellowstone icons - bison and hot springs -
for a "moody feel."
"National Geographic" is known for featuring the best of the best photographers around the world and devotes more resources to photography than any other generalinterest magazine. Sheridan's wildlife photos also have been published by Montana and Alaska magazines.
Dr. Sheridan Not only does Sheridan photograph wildlife, he actively seeks to preserve the natural environment. The Florida Wildlife Federation recently named he and his wife, Brenda, Water Conservationists of the Year, "for their selfless contributions to making Southwest Florida more sustainable, by their efforts to protect not only the manatee, but its habitat."
