Art show to benefit breast cancer research

The Art League of Fort Myers will host an opening night reception for its third annual "Cele-BRA-tion" show from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3 in the league gallery, 1451 Monroe Street in the downtown River District. Admission is free and all are invited.

This year's sponsor will be All American Dance Studio, which is contributing a series of dance lessons to be raffled off to raise money for breast cancer research.

"Cele-BRA-tion" is a themed, judged fine arts show featuring the multimedia work of artists throughout Southwest Florida. Centering on the theme of breast cancer awareness, artists will contribute their oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings as well as collages, prints, fiber works and photography— all original works of art.

A portion of the artists' sales will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The show will continue during gallery hours until October 31. The gallery and gift shop are open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The show will be part of Art Walk, a free downtown Fort Myers art celebration featuring 11 art galleries, to be held on the first Friday of each month in the River District.

The Art League of Fort Myers has been operating in the downtown Fort Myers area since 1956. The league hosts workshops and still-life painting sessions, a variety of art classes, and sponsors monthly juried and judged art shows along with special exhibitions featuring well-known artists. New members are always welcomed.
