COURTESY PHOTO Artificial Farm with Patented Pigs by Marcus Antonius Jansen. Jansen is one of the featured artists at "A Latin Art Affair." The show opens Friday, Sept. 19. "A Latin Art Affair" opens Friday, Sept. 19 at the Harborside Event Center in the downtown Fort Myers River District. The exhibit is part of National Hispanic Heritage Month, with displays by local Latino artists Marcus Antonius Jansen, David Acevedo, Juan Diaz, Rey Llanes Marques, Mayra and Denis Velez and Amarillis Veliz. Works are as diverse and electrifying as their countries of origin. In addition to the art, enjoy the innovative Latin sounds of internationally celebrated Havy Rodriguez and Valerie Morales.
Jansen describes his work as Urban-Expressionism — a combination of many different elements and styles which at first sight make his paintings appear like detailed collages. Since the 1980s, urban-influenced art has incorporated subcultural elements, urban feel and raw graffiti expression. His work is displayed all over the world.
Amarillis Veliz, born in Cuba, trained at the National School of Cubanican Art and did postgraduate work in industrial design and textiles.
