Art exhibition on display at Airport

The Lee County Port Authority's "Art In Flight" Program recently installed a new exhibition at Southwest Florida International Airport. The second art show at the airport, this exhibition features work by artists from surrounding counties.

The "Art In Flight" committee, led by Deirdre Mann, president of the board of directors for the Lee County Alliance for the Arts, issued a Call to Artists in January. The committee selected 37 works of art for display from more than 200 submitted pieces. Local artist Jeffrey Lewis is curator for the show. The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, illustrations and photography. The artwork, which will be on display until the end of the year, is displayed in public areas on the second level of the airport terminal.

"Southwest Florida International Airport is the front door to our region," said Robert M. Ball, executive director of the Lee County Port Authority. "Our beautiful new terminal is the perfect setting to showcase the talent and artistic excellence of our local art community to the millions of people who use and travel through our airport each year."

The following 18 artists were chosen to have their artwork displayed: Caitlin Blankenhorn, Daniel Calvert, John W. Cane, Muffy Clark Gill, Robert Greenwald, Scott Guelcher, John Ketley, Megan Kissinger, Jo-Ann Lizio, Charlie McCullough, Joshua Myers, Sandi Orgovan, Renee Rey, Doris Schroeder, Carl E. Schwartz, Bill Thomas, Florene Welebny and Roseline Young.
