Sheriff launches 'ICE' your phone campaign

The Lee County Sheriff's Office wants to get the word out about ICE. ICE, an acronym for In Case of Emergency, is a contact one would put in their cell phone so emergency workers know who to contact in case of an emergency.

ICE was started in London in 2005, in an effort to get people to list their emergency contacts in their cell phone under the label ICE. In case of an accident, emergency workers can use your cell phone to notify family or friends quickly. People have their ICE contacts listed as; ICE-mom, ICE-dad, ICE-wife, etc. Some even have a small, red sticker attached to their cell phone to alert emergency workers that they have ICE contacts in their cell phone.

Cell phones are carried by a majority of the population, so ICE is a very useful tool. The Lee County Sheriff's Office is working with IceSticker.com and McKibbon Hotels on this.

Your ICE contact should know that you chose them to be your ICE contact. That contact needs to be someone close to you who knows your MAD; Medications, Allergies, & Doctors. All this information is very important when treating someone during an emergency situation.
