Student art on display at Commissioner Hall's office
Lee County Commissioner Tammy Hall, is supporting local young artists by giving them an opportunity to display their artwork in her Fort Myers office. This month, four students from area high schools will have their art work on display at the District #4 Commissioner office through June 6.
"The arts are an important part of the cultural development of our community," said Hall. "I believe that government can play an important role in providing assistance in public awareness, developing the use of public spaces for display and interaction of art, and for the encouragement and commitment of continued financial support both public and private of all the arts."
Currently on display are three pieces done by 17-year-old students involved in the Neighborhood Accountability Boards; a program out of Lee County Human Services. The NAB program takes a restorative justice perspective at repairing the harm committed by youth against victims and neighborhoods. For more information on this program contact Human Services at 533-7947.
Also on display is the work of Devin Harclerode, a Cape Coral High School student. Her piece "Ghost of Marcel Duchamp" won first place in the Phantom Project for the Sydney & Berne Davis Art Center.
Commissioner Hall's office is on the first floor of the Old County Courthouse, 2120 Main Street in downtown Fort Myers. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is welcome to view the artwork and learn more about the artists.
Other local artists will be featured at 4-6 week intervals. For more information on an opportunity to display your work in the office call 239-533-2226 directly.
