New speed slides make big waves at Sun Splash

X-celerator, Terror Tube and Thunder Bump now open

Hold on to your bathing suit, Sun Splash Family Waterpark has opened three new, heart-pounding, high-speed body slides, the X-celerator, Terror Tube and Thunder Bump. The trio of attractions is taller and faster than any other in Sun Splash's history.

The slides were designed with the 'tween and teen set in mind, offering extreme thrills.

The Thunder Bump is 264 feet long with several steep bumps. On the Terror Tube, riders begin their descent gradually in an enclosed tube, then encounter a sudden, steep open drop to finish with a thrill. The X-celerator, an open slide, takes guests on a five-anda half-story freefall drop at speeds up to 40 feet per second.

"We can't wait for everyone to come and try the new slides," said Annette Figueroa, waterpark manager. "We're very hopeful that this new addition will help put Sun Splash on the map as a destination for local residents and even tourists who are looking for a waterpark with thrill rides."

Guests must be 48 inches to ride all three of the new slides.

Sun Splash Family Waterpark is Southwest Florida's largest waterpark with 14 acres of slides, pools, food and fun for all ages. It is owned and operated by the City of Cape Coral Parks Recreation Department. Sun Splash is located at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd., just 2.5 miles north of Veterans Parkway in Cape Coral, Fla., and is open March through September. Cape Coral residents can purchase discounted season passes and tickets throughout the season. For hours and ticket information, visit the Sun Splash Web site at www.sunsplashwaterpark.com or call (239) 574-0558.
