News-Press editor heading to corporate
Gannett Co., Inc. announced that Kate Marymont, executive editor and vice president/Information Center at The News-Press, will replace Jennifer Carroll, vice president of New Media Content for Gannett, and will have the new title of vice president/Information Center Content in the U.S. Community Publishing Division.
"It is vitally important that we continue the growth and development of our Information Centers around the company. Kate has excellent credentials as an editor and as an innovator, and Fort Myers has been one of our outstanding Information Centers," said Robert J. Dickey, president of of U.S. Community Publishing for Gannett.
"Further, I believe the working relationship between Kate and Jennifer, forged during the development of the Information Center and other initiatives, will effectively enhance and strengthen the ongoing partnership between the digital and publishing divisions."
Marymont has headed the Fort Myers news operation since March 2001. Before that, she was top editor at Gannett's Springfield (MO) News-Leader. She also has held key editing roles at The News- Journal in Wilmington, DE, and at the Arkansas Gazette in Little Rock.
She has won four President's Rings for excellence in News, including a shared award as Editor of the Year in 2004 and a first runner-up award in 2006. The News-Press won a Gannett Gold Medal Award in 2006 under her leadership and last year won the APME Innovator of the Year Award. In the past year, Marymont has headed a task force looking at further digital advances for the Local Information Centers.
