Kingfish Shootout next weekend at beach

The Fort Myers Beach Kingfish Shootout will be held Friday through Sunday, April 11-13 at Salty Sam's Marina, 2500 Main Street, Fort Myers Beach. Participating boats will fish areas from Fort Myers to Key West on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is sanctioned by The Southern Kingfish Association, an organization similar to the Bass Pro Series. SKA tournaments are held throughout the Gulf Coast and to win, competitors must fish a certain number of tournaments to qualify and to increase their points.

Weigh-ins will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Salty Sam's Marina. Registration is from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11. First prize, for the largest Kingfish, by weight, is a boat, motor and trailer valued at $50,000.
