Sponsored by M&I Wealth Management, Saudi Aramco World, Lynda and Thomas Bulloch of Sagemark Consulting, and Kimberley Speer Miller.

April 12 - April 27, 2008 Jade Riedel Scholarship Competition

In 1971, members of the Naples Art Association initiated a scholarship program designed to encourage young aspiring artists to realize their dreams of becoming professionals in the visual arts. Since then, awards have been given annually by the NAA to Collier County high school students in conjunction with an exhibition of their work. Junior and senior high school students in Collier County, who are interested in furthering their art studies at the college level, eagerly participate in this competition for scholarships that help to defray student tuition costs for art courses at the college level. Winners will be selected by digital media artist Laurence Gartel, considered to be the "father" of the Digital Art Movement around the world for over 30 years. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Joan Whitney Payson Museum, Long Beach Museum of Art, Princeton Art Museum, and in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History and the Bibliotheque Nationale. Sponsored by IAG Galleries, LLC, and the NAA Board of Directors.

May 10 - June 29, 2008 Art Encounter 2008

Art Encounter 2008 is a juried awards exhibition highlighting recent work in installation, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and works on paper by artists from all regions of Florida. July 12 - August 3 10 Illustrated: An NAA Members' Photography Exhibition

This year Naples Illustrated and The von Liebig Art Center both celebrate their 10-year anniversaries. For this exhibition, NAA member artists are challenged to consider the potential of 10 and include the possibilities in their artwork. How can 10 be illustrated or incorporated as a theme in photography? What is the meaning of 10? The exhibition may include photography or mixed media works incorporating photography such as collage, photomontage, hand colored photographs, graphic design, compositing and computer illustration. Olga Gustine, Design Director for Palm Beach Media Group, and Reynaldo Martin, Art Director for Naples Illustrated, will serve as jurors.

July 12 - August 24 It's a Dog's Life: Photographs by William Wegman from the Polaroid Collection

The work of William Wegman has received international attention with his photographs, videos, paintings and drawings exhibited worldwide. Wegman has created film and video works for Saturday Night Live and Nickelodeon, and his video segments for Sesame Street have appeared regularly since 1989. It's a Dog's Life is a traveling exhibition organized by the DeLand Museum of Art featuring 28 of Wegman's Polaroid images.

OFF-SITE EXHIBITIONS

Through May 28: Finding the Image

This popular exhibition of 35 works by 12 NAA artists at Physicians Regional Medical Center on Pine Ridge Road has been extended. The show encourages viewers to consider the process artists follow when creating artwork. While the artists in this exhibition create works of art that may appear very different in subject matter and style, their work derives from a creative process whereby ideas and inspiration are combined with art making techniques. The creative process is as varied and individual as each artist. It may begin with an idea, observation or another type of inspiration such as a dream.

May 29 - August 20: Florida Naturally

This exhibition, also at Physicians Regional Medical Center on Pine Ridge Road, will highlight the natural beauty of Florida's wildlife and natural settings. The exhibition of 2- and 3-dimensional pieces will include work by Clyde Butcher, Kathy Spalding, Paul Furman and Craig Bone.
