Jorge Diaz has been promoted to the rank of battalion chief of the Lee County Port Authority's Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting department. As battalion chief, Diaz functions as the commanding officer responsible for administrative and managerial duties for one of the three shifts responsible for life safety and fire protection services at Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field General Aviation Airport. He also works closely with the fire chief to strategize and implement policies and procedures for the department. In this role, he can take an active command role of emergency operations when needed. Diaz is the state-licensed fire equipment dealer/qualifier for the Lee County Port Authority, overseeing the installation, repair and maintenance of all fire extinguishers at both airports and manages testing requirements for equipment and vehicles to ensure they are fully operational. He also oversees the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting technician program and serves as the department coordinator for all community event activities.
