Spring classes and workshops at the Alliance for the Arts

The Alliance for the Arts offers classes for children of all ages and adults.

Each season fresh sessions are offered in genres from jewelry making, glass fusing, life drawing, charcoals, acrylic painting, oils, pastels, theatre, dance and many more specializations. Youth Performing Arts Acting for Life (Ages 8 - 13) Instructor: Shawn Holiday Thursdays, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. March 27- May 15; $90/110

Shawn Holiday, former director of Kids Conspiracy in Fort Myers, uses a safe, creative and rewarding atmosphere to foster skills that will serve youngsters well regardless of future plans: teamwork, communication, poise, making adjustments, diction and personal expression. Pint Size Performers (Ages 4 to 7) Instructor: Shawn Holiday Thursdays; 4- 5:30 p.m. April 3- May 8; $75/90

This six-week class uses improvisation games to help youngsters learn about themselves and how they interact with the world. Acting for Homeschoolers (Ages 8-13) Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon March 26- May 14; $90/110

Through improvisation games and play readings, this unique class will take participants on a journey to learn more about themselves and how we all interact. Hip-Hop 'n' Jam (Ages 13 and up) Instructor: Lori Madl Tuesdays, 7- 8 p.m. April 2 - June 2; $75/90 (no class 5/20)

This class is designed for teens who want to learn some dance techniques and share their own hip hop style with others. Teen Tap (Ages 12 to 17) Instructor: Lori Madl Mondays; 7:30- 8:30 p.m. April 22 - June 3; $75/90 (no class 5/26) For all levels of tap dancers, beginners through advanced. Teen Ballet (Ages 12 to 17) Instructor: Lori Madl Tuesdays, 5:30- 7 p.m. April 22- June 3; $90/110 (no class 5/20) For the teen who has knowledge of ballet basics and wants to learn more. Introduction to Art (Ages 6 - 10) Instructor: Debbie Greene Saturdays, 10:30- noon April 26- May 31; $75/90 ($10 mat'l fee)

Students will learn about different artists and styles while exploring a variety of mediums including paint, pastels, collage, 3-dimensional art, and more. Art for Homeschooled Students Instructor: Debbie Greene Fridays, April 25- May 30 9:30- 11 a.m. (Ages 6-10) 11:30- 1 p.m. (Ages 11-13) $75/90 ($10 materials fee)

Students will learn about different artists and styles while a exploring a variety of mediums including paint, pastels, collage, 3-dimensional art, and more. Modern Painting (Ages 12-16) Instructors: Leo & Krista Johnson Thursdays, 4- 6 p.m. April 3- May 15; $75/90 (no class 4/17)

A class based on modern art where students can learn different methods and appreciation of modern art from the early days to present and produce works for the future. 20th Century Painting Instructor: Leo Johnson Wednesdays, 6- 8 p.m. April 2- 30 (no class 4/16) and/or May 7- 28; $120/145 per session

Fine Art Acrylics Instructor: Lucie Macherowski Mondays, 9:30-noon April 7- May 19; $91/105 You may register at any time during the session. Please call for prorated rate. Painting Studio Instructor: Terry Lynn Spry Tuesdays, 6:30- 9 p.m. April 1- May 20; $104/120

Beginners through advanced students are invited to work in this oil, acrylic and pastel painting studio. Novices are welcome and begin the session with lessons in drawing and color theory. Students may focus on study of the basics or develop and refine skills. Ask for a materials list. Watercolor (All levels) Instructor: Patty Kane Thursdays, 6:30- 9 p.m. April 3- May 29 (no class 4/24); $104/120

Explore traditional watercolor techniques with an emphasis on color and composition. Beginning and Intermediate Oils Instructor: Ann McCarty Sickels Thursdays, 9:30-noon April 3- May 8; $75/90

Excellent class for the person who has never painted before or intermediate students looking for experienced guidance. Beginning Drawing Instructor: George Vokovich (Georgo) Tuesdays, noon- 3 p.m. April 1- May 6; $110/130

Learn to see as an artist sees. Learn to draw accurately shapes, shadows, angles, and proportion to get you on your way. Painting the Florida Landscape Instructor: Ann McCarty Sickels Wednesdays, 9:30-noon April 2- May 7; $75/90

We will use value, color control, brush strokes, contrast and more to create dynamic tropical landscapes. Silversmithing Instructor: Pilar Baker Tuesdays, 6:30- 9 p.m. April 1- May 20; $120/145 or Thursdays, 9:30- noon April 3- May 22; $120/145

Drill, saw and learn a variety of silversmithing techniques to create your own finished piece of silver jewelry. Beginning Adult Tap Instructor: Lori Madl Mondays 5:30- 6:30 p.m. April 21- May 19; $75/90

Learn to tap dance in a relaxed, no pressure class where the goal is to have a good time while learning something new. Class will consist of warm-up, technique and combinations. Ask for dance attire list.
