Exhibition at FGCU art gallery
Florida Gulf Coast University and the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) will present "Where the Wild Things (Still) Are," an exhibition and sale of wildlife-themed artwork from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 28.
The goal of the event is to raise awareness of wildlife and the critical need for its protection. Along with introductions by gallery director Scott Snyder and CROW clinical director and staff veterinarian Dr. P.J. Deitschel, wildlife experts and participating artists will be in attendance to talk about their work.
The Art Gallery at FGCU will provide the setting for the evening's art and educational programming by CROW, music and hors d'oeuvres, and featuring a presentation by Deitschel.
A wildlife rehabilitator for 20 years, Deitschel has cared for more than 40,000 wild animals during her career. After completing her veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 1996 and studying for a year in South Africa to learn about wildlife rehabilitation, Deitschel joined CROW in 1998 as staff veterinarian. She integrates western and eastern medical traditions in her treatment of CROW's patients, incorporating surgery, acupuncture, nutrition, herbal supplements and physical therapy.
CROW, located on Sanibel Island, is the region's only wildlife hospital, seeking to rescue, care for, and eventually release back into the wild sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife. Under direction of a full-time veterinarian and dedicated staff and volunteers, CROW provides high quality medical care for more than 3,400 wild animals annually, representing nearly 160 species.
