Club Sandoval's Lagoon Pool designed by Jackson Pools earned a gold award as the top entry in its category from the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals. APSP is the industry's largest international trade organization with approximately 5,000 members representing 15,000 professionals.
Sandoval is being developed by Bonita Bay Group in Cape Coral on Veterans Parkway just west of Surfside Boulevard. The 524-acre, master-planned community has a casual lifestyle and resort-style amenities that add to Sandoval's vacation ambience. Club Sandoval's centerpiece amenity is the 7,500-square-foot, free-form Lagoon Pool, one of the largest in Lee County and the first saline pool in the area.
The 2007 APSP awards competition attracted 750 entries from seven countries. Each year, up to eight judges from diverse areas of the industry nationwide evaluate entries for quality of building design, workmanship, soundness of design, safety measures and aesthetic features in a search for what the organizations describes as the most beautiful, creative and technologically advanced installations.
Jackson Pools custom designed the free-form pool with a gently-sloped, zero-edge entry. Bright tropical colors, unique water features, a footbridge that arches over the water and lush foliage evoke images of an island resort.
"We designed the pool to match Sandoval's lifestyle and Club Sandoval's Caribbean island ambience," said Chad Jackson, president/owner of Jackson Pools in Estero. "We paid particular attention to the diverse resident profiles, so the amenity has features for virtually everyone, with swim lanes for the athletes, play places for kids and spacious deck areas."
Jackson Pools is one of the area's top pool contractors. Their work has included the exclusive Delano Hotel South Beach, the Radisson Aruba and the Sheraton Bal Harbour Beach Resort at Miami Beach.
The Lagoon Pool's giant spray hoops in brilliant colors, and bright, red tumble buckets that fill and spill water, punctuate the children's splash area. Tropical palms and plants form a canopy over The Chute, a slick, 100-foot water slide that ends with a plunge, and a water spout shaped like a serpent adds a magical touch to the play area. Custom tiles in rich Caribbean colors line the perimeter of the pool and add to the island flair.
The pool's unique, shell-stone coping was custom made onsite. "Coping is a construction product that is typically manufactured, but we had to accommodate the pool's free-form shape, which meant we could only do the work onsite," Jackson said. "It was a feat and the kind of design challenge that APSP judges take into consideration."
