Tennis tournament helps breast cancer care

The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club on Sanibel will host the fourth annual Partners for Breast Cancer Care Tennis Tournament, Feb. 16 and 17.

The weekend-long event will feature ladies doubles, men's doubles and mixed doubles tournaments, with proceeds benefiting Partners for Breast Cancer Care, which provides funding for women who need biopsies, mammograms or other breast procedures. All event activities will take place within the club's comprehensive facilities, including seven Har-Tru tennis courts in a secluded, private setting.

Entry fees are $55 for one event and $60 for two events, which includes continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, in addition to lunch on Saturday. The deadline to sign up is February 13. Interested parties should contact the Dunes Tennis Shop at (239) 472-3522.

Chairperson Diane Limeri Marotta also encourages individuals to donate an item for the silent auction or volunteer to sponsor the event. Last year, the event raised more than $5,600 for Partners for Breast Cancer Care. To donate an item or volunteer to sponsor the event contact Diane Limeri Marotta at 239.472.3522.

Based at Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, Partners for Breast Cancer Care aids women who have lost their health insurance or otherwise cannot afford procedures on their own. Doctors from throughout Lee County help to offer services at discounted rates. As of May 2007, the United Way agency had aided more than 6,000 individuals.
