New medical equipment company opens

Pro Med Instruments, a worldwide medical equipment manufacturer, has opened a new sales and distribution office in Cape Coral's Community Redevelopment Area.

Pro Med Instruments designs and manufactures the largest selection of cranial stabilization, brain retractor systems and accessories for neurosurgery, marketed worldwide in more than 50 countries. This product line was launched in 1993, when the Freiberg, Germany-based company developed the DORO line of surgical products in close collaboration with leading neurosurgeons and nurses.

Pro Med Instruments moved its American sales and distribution office from Lehigh Acres to Cape Coral based on the availability of broadband Internet connectivity and proximity to its work force. The Cape Coral Economic Development Office was instrumental in finding a suitable location for the office and facilitating regulatory processes.

Located at 4529 S.E. 16th Place, Suite 101, Pro Med Instruments' Cape Coral office employs five people in management, operations, sales and service engineer positions, according to Sandra McDonald, vice president of operations and marketing for North America.

"We are pleased to welcome Pro Med Instruments to Cape Coral," said Mike Jackson, the city's director of economic development. "From this sales office, Pro Med Instruments is proving that the Cape can be the preferred location for managing a global business. This is a positive beginning."
