FGCU music student wins young artists award

Faith Lanctot Sam, a junior music major at the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University recently won the piano division of the "Southwest Florida Symphony Young Artists Competition" in Fort Myers.

Lanctot Sam, student of FGCU associate professor of Music Michael Baron, also won the Grey Perry Collegiate Piano Award last May and the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Competition for the state of Florida in October 2006.

"Faith is an outstanding student in the Bower School of Music. She has once again brought honor to FGCU, to the Bower School of Music, to her teacher Dr. Michael Baron, and to herself by winning this competition," said founding director of Music Nancy Cobb-Lippens.

Baron added, "I am very proud of Faith's continuing successes as an outstanding young pianist."

Lanctot Sam has studied music at the Corsi Internationali di Musica program at the University of Urbino, Italy, as well as performed in concerts and recitals in the U.S. and Italy.
