Lee County school nurse named best in Florida

The Florida Association of School Nurses announces its 2008 School Nurse of the Year, Shelley Bumm. Shelley is in her 20th year of school nursing with the Lee County School District. She is the full time school nurse to the 875 students at Villas Elementary School in Fort Myers.
Nominees for this prestigious award must belong to their professional organization and are judged on the Standards of Care for School Nursing.
In addition to meeting the Standards of Care criteria, Shelley also received letters of support from parents, administrators, teachers and community agencies such as the American Lung Association and her church.
Shelley's efforts in her school and community to promote school nursing, wellness and health promotion have made her well know and well respected within the community. Her experience in school nursing holds her in high regard among her peers and she is frequently contacted by nurses in her district for her advice and counsel.
Shelley will be formally recognized at the Florida Association of School Nurses State Conference, February 8-9, 2008 at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary. After representing Florida school nurses for 2008, she will be nominated for the National Association of School Nurses, National School Nurse of the Year in 2009.
