SPECIAL TO FLORIDA WEEKLY

Residents who attended the Holiday Carol Sing at First Presbyterian Church last week contributed more than 5,000 pounds of canned goods and $4,180 to benefit The Soup Kitchen, operated by Community Cooperative Ministries on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Canned goods were collected at the 17th annual Holiday Carol Sing, sponsored by the Galloway Family of Dealerships, and will be enough to feed the hungry through the holidays, event organizers said.
About 1,800 people attended the two performances, which featured an old-fashioned sing-a-long with the First Presbyterian Church Choir, The Mastersingers, and visits from Santa Claus, Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and other holiday characters.
