Sun Splash adds new water slides
Sun Splash Family Waterpark will unveil three new, heartpounding, high-speed body slides to guests during the 2008 season. The slides - not for the faint-ofheart - will be taller and faster than any of the waterpark's existing attractions.
"Sun Splash is historically a family waterpark, and we are continuing that tradition by adding attractions that will appeal more to children in the teen and 'tween set, as well as adults," said Annette Figueroa, waterpark manager. "We already have many attractions that appeal to smaller children, and the addition of the new slides will greatly diversify our offerings."
The new tower of slides, which has yet to be named, will have a platform measuring 52.8 feet high, which is slightly taller than the waterpark's tallest existing attraction, the Power Tower.
The new tower's first slide, a speedslide, is a 264 feet long with several steep bumps and provides riders a smooth but speedy experience. On the "Freefall Plus," riders begin their descent gradually in an enclosed tube, then encounter a sudden, steep open drop to finish with a thrill. The "Freefall," a completely open slide, will stake its claim as the park's steepest and fastest slide with guests plummeting straight down a five-and-a-halfstory freefall drop up at speeds up to 40 feet per second.
Unlike other slides at Sun Splash, the three new slides will bring riders to a gradual stop and a ground exit instead of a pool of water. The new tower of slides will be located in the back of the water park, closest to Santa Barbara Boulevard. Names for the slides will be announced this winter. Construction will begin in January 2008.
Sun Splash also has added a new slide to the popular Power Tower and is implementing other improvements including repainting, new signage and better access to concessions for the 2008 season.
