Presidential primaries next month

Last day to register is Dec. 31

The Presidential Preference Primary is Jan. 29. The last day to register to vote or change party affiliation for this election is Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. This is a recognized holiday for Lee County, but all four offices of the Lee County Supervisor of Elections will be open.

This is a partisan election where people must be registered with the party of the candidate they wish to vote for; Democrats will vote for the Democratic candidates and Republicans will vote for the Republican candidates. People who are registered with minor parties or have no party affiliation will not be able to vote for the candidates. All registered voters will be able to vote on the Property Tax Exemptions; Limitations on Property Tax Assessments proposed constitutional amendment that will be on the ballot.

Bonita Springs will also hold its election on Jan. 29 with a run-off in April, if needed. This is a non-partisan election. All eligible voters in Bonita will be able to vote on the candidates for Mayor and their charter amendment, but the council members are voted on by district.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach will have several charter amendments on the ballot. All eligible voters will be able to vote on these.

Registered voters in the Lehigh Acres Fire Control District boundaries will have a nonbinding referendum regarding incorporation as a city on their ballots.

Early voting will be available at these five locations beginning Jan. 14 until Jan. 26, Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. -5 p.m.:

  • East Lee County Regional Library 881 Gunnery Rd, Lehigh 533-8683
  • For an easy and convenient, no waiting in line method of voting, people can request a Ballot By Mail by calling 533-6919. Formally known as an absentee ballot. Every registered voter can take advantage of this method of voting.
