Edison College updating campus plan

Edison College is in the process of developing new master plans for the Charlotte, Collier and Lee campuses in preparation for future enrollment demands. The initiative includes needs assessments for classrooms and parking, and potential land acquisition for additional buildings and amenities across the five-county service district.

"The College will serve approximately 17,000 credit-seeking students this year, and we expect to accommodate many thousands more in the coming years," said Dr. Kenneth P. Walker, District President.

The Lee Campus, established in 1962 in Fort Myers, now encompasses 142 acres. The 80-acre Collier Campus opened in 1992 on Lely Cultural Parkway in Naples, and the Charlotte Campus was built in 1997 on a 171-acre parcel on Airport Road in Punta Gorda. College officials continue to work with The Bonita Bay Group in planning the future Kenneth J. Curtis Campus to be sited near the intersections of SR 80 and SR 27 in Hendry County.

As part of the planning process, Edison College is also exploring the viability of student housing on the Lee and Collier County campuses through a comprehensive market and demand analysis. The report will quantify demand by student cohort and housing type to determine whether students would benefit from housing close to campus now or in coming years.

The College's master planning activities will be completed early next year.
