USA swimming trials at Miromar Lakes
Contestants vying for spot on US Olympic team
The USA Swimming Open Water World Championship Trials will be held at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club on Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday Oct. 21, 2007. This is the final North American event in a fouryear qualifying cycle. Forty USA swimmers will be vying for four available spots at an Olympic selection meet to be held April 29-May 4, 2008 in Seville, Spain. Full Story

More than 250 youth sailors from as far away as New Jersey and Ohio will compete in the waters off Fort Myers Beach Oct. 20-21 in the annual Beach Romp Sailing Regatta. The multi-class regatta is a Junior Olympic competition sanctioned by United States Sailing. Full Story
Program helps girls deal with trauma
They've witnessed serious car crashes, shootings or lost loved ones. The Children's Advocacy Center is offering a program aimed at girls between 12 and 17 who have experienced traumatic events. "It can be anything. Abuse, neglect, abandonment, loss, witness to a crime, a loss in the family or a bad traffic accident," said therapist Christina Reynolds. Full Story
Program to aid senior addicts
Poor eyesight, confusion and addiction may be driving seniors to serious health problems, but officials at Southwest Florida Addiction Services are hoping that a new program will help. They received a $450,000 grant from the Florida Department of Children and Families substance abuse program to help identify and treat seniors. Full Story
