Band Of Horses
MUSIC REVIEWED BY BOB JONES
Cease to Begin - Sub Pop Records The good folks at Sub Pop Records introduced us to the band Nirvana before they were a household name and frankly the album Bleach which they wisely held onto may very well help keep the label afloat financially. This is great for them and for music lovers alike because they are a group of people who have very good taste in music and Cease to Begin is a
very good example of this. This is the second full length album from Band Of
Horses, the first one, last years Everything All The Time was a default disc for
me. When I couldn't think of something I wanted to listen to I would often reach
for the Band Of Horses disc.
Cease to Begin is just as strong as their first album
even though they lost guitarist Mat Brooke between albums. Cease to Begin is
very dream-pop record with the optimistic lyrics and vocal delivery of Ben
Bridwell. It is has a lush, full sounding arrangement and just makes you feel
good, it lifts the spirits, if you will. Band Of Horses sounds nothing like the
grunge era records that still generate revenue for Sub Pop, but Band
of Horses and their new album gives us another reason to thank Kurt and Co. ¦
