Women mentors desperately needed
The Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. urgently needs responsible women, at least 18 years of age or older, to work with at-risk middle school girls in a mentor program. Young professionals and college students are encouraged to apply. Needed immediately are those who want to make a commitment to making a difference in the life of a child.
Supported by the Florida Mentoring Partnership, the "Get Real! Mentoring Program" focuses on impacting school performance and attendance of atrisk middle school girls by increasing their motivation and ability to make positive life choices, with the help from caring community members serving as mentors. Mentors are asked to be a friend and role model for these young girls and work with them in a curriculum based program.
This is a 30-week program and requires participants to meet once a week for an hour with a group of other mentors and the students. The program will alternate weekly from group discussions to oneon one discussions between the mentor and assigned student.
Participants can arrange this
program for school credit or
for volunteer hours.
