Airport earns top award from state
The Florida Department of Transportation recently honored Southwest Florida International Airport with the prestigious award of the "2007 Outstanding Commercial Service Airport Project of the Year" for its Runway 6/24 Rehabilitation project. This award was presented to the Lee County Port Authority, Hole Montes and Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. at the Florida Airports Council Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla.
Southwest Florida International Airport is the only single-runway, mediumhub airport in the U.S.
"This award recognizes an airport director, staff, consultants and contractors that accomplished an outstanding airport project," said Bill Ashbaker, manager of the FDOT Aviation Office. "This proactive approach saved a substantial amount of money by greatly extending the useful life of critical aviation infrastructure."
The FDOT Aviation Office awards the "Airport Project of the Year" annually to one airport from a field that includes Florida's 20 commercial service airports. This is the third time Southwest Florida International Airport has received this accolade. ¦
