Art show celebrates disability awareness

In celebration of disability awareness, The Rehabilitation Hospital and the Arts In Healthcare Program at Lee Memorial Health System will be hosting a juried art show featuring local disabled artists. The event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 4- 6 p.m. on the 5th Floor of the Rehabilitation Hospital.

Over 30 artists will be competing to have their work selected for the 2008 Arts In Healthcare Calendar. The winner will be awarded $500 and their art will be placed on permanent display at The Rehabilitation. Hospital.

Since it's inception in 1997, Arts in Healthcare has developed into a multifaceted program offering a broad spectrum of creative arts to all ages and has become an integral part of healthcare within the hospital setting. Arts in Healthcare is a nation-wide movement that links the expressive arts with the healing arts and brings these into the mainstream of traditional healthcare to promote the well-being of those who are ill and their caregivers. ¦
