Art in children's books at Naples gallery

From Sept. 8 to Oct. 28, the Watson Gallery in The von Leibig Art Center in Naples features Awarding Pictures: The Art of Children's Book Illustration. Focusing on award winning artists working in the field of children's literature, this exhibition will showcase historic and contemporary artwork in media ranging from painting to video. The exhibition will highlight the significant impact that children's illustrations have had on the art world and the field of children's literature both nationally and internationally. Look for special labels geared toward children and a children's reading and activity area in the center of the gallery.

During the same time period, the art center will feature Pablo Cano: Workshop Drawings and Musical Marionettes. The workshop drawings are entirely created using paper place mats, while the marionettes are constructed from recycled materials. The original marionettes for this exhibition were commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, with loans and support by Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Wayner.

All Naples Art Association member artists are invited to submit artwork for the first Members' Gallery 2007-08 season show, the September-October Show. Please bring your 2-D or 3-D artwork to the Members' Gallery on either Tuesday, Sept. 18 or Wednesday, Sept. 19 between 10 am and 1 pm for jurying. The 2007- 2008 Members' Gallery brochures have been mailed and are available at the art center. ¦
