CHS, Southwest Division is one of two "Cribs for Kids" affiliates in Florida, and the only affiliate in Southwest Florida. Initially CHS' Cribs for Babies program was funded through a $4,000 grant from the Southwest Florida Community Foundation to provide new portable cribs to low income families in Lee County at low or no cost. In order to maximize the impact of the program, CHS teamed up with the national "Cribs for Kids" program. The program provides new Graco Pack n' Play portable cribs to low-income families, helping to assure that babies have a safe place to sleep. "Cribs for Kids" has been credited with helping to reduce the SIDS death rate and is being replicated in 140 locations in 32 states.
This fundraiser will allow CHS to purchase additional cribs for low-income families in Lee County, and expand the Cribs for Kids program to Collier and Charlotte Counties.
Established in 1902, Children's Home Society of Florida is the oldest non-profit provider of services to children and families in the state. Today, CHS has 14 divisions statewide providing Florida families with a unique spectrum of social services that includes foster care, adoption, child abuse prevention, emergency shelter, group homes, case management, treatment for developmentally disabled children, and more. Nationally accredited by Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services, CHS makes a difference in the lives of more than 160,000 Florida children and families each year. CHS is headquartered in Winter Park, Florida and offers services in more than 200 locations by more than 2,300 staff members who are dedicated to providing child-focused, family-centered care.
