Goodwill looking for car donations

Do you have a car you no longer drive? Is your driveway looking like a car lot? Why not donate that car to Goodwill and change someone's life? Goodwill is in desperate need of cars for its 4 Wheels 4 Work program and its car sales lot in Fort Myers. 4 Wheels 4 Work gives cars to deserving people who are in need of their own transportation. This program allows people in need to have a car to go to work and provide for their families like Fort Myers resident Margaret Smith.

Smith is a busy woman, working two jobs and taking care of her four children. For some time, Margaret didn't have a car, making it very difficult for her to get to work and her children to school and after school activities. She would often pay friends for rides, but many times they wouldn't show up. Margaret says the expression on her kid's faces when she wasn't there was very disappointing.

As a patient care tech at Southwest Regional Medical Center and working at Sam's Club part time, Margaret needed her own transportation. A typical day for her would mean leaving the house at 4:30 a.m. and coming home after 8 p.m. It was exhausting for both her and her children. Margaret found out about Goodwill's 4 Wheels 4 Work program and immediately applied. She was ecstatic when she learned she was accepted. As part of the program, Margaret had to take money management and car maintenance classes, which she says was very helpful. After completing the classes, Margaret received a 1995 Mercury Villager van, big enough for her family. "Receiving the car is a burden lifted," Margaret says. "I'm so blessed now." Margaret says.

By simply donating your un-needed autos you can change lives like Margaret Smith's. To donate a car it must be in running and drivable condition. The vehicle must be legally registered and have a title. We offer free pick up Monday through Friday in the Lee County area. You can drop off cars at our auto donation center located at 3333 Fowler Street in Ft. Myers or call 1-866-995- 2106 to have your vehicle picked up free of charge.
