Census: Hispanic population growing at 17 percent
New figures put Lee's overall growth at 5 percent
Lee County's population is getting younger and more diverse according to figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau late last week. New figures show the county grew 5 percent in the one-year period ending July 1, 2006 but the Hispanic population increased at more than three times that rate - or 17 percent - during that same period. The Lee County Sheriff's Office has received a number of inquiries regarding new traffic laws alleged to have been enacted in Florida and effective the first of this month. Five-year-old gets titanium femur
Five-year-old Angeline Thompson is one of a kind. Diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a type of bone cancer that typically strikes boys between the ages of 10 and 20, she is the first patient to receive an expandable titanium femur at HealthPark Medical Center. Full Story
