Habitat for Humanity opens four new homes

The Lee County chapter has built more than 800 of these throughout Lee County. Habitat for Humanity of Lee County will dedicate four new homes in Lehigh Acres on Saturday, Aug. 4. The four dedications will be split into three ceremonies with the first one beginning at 9 a.m. at 2505 70th Street, Lehigh Acres. Sharon James and her two children is the recipient of this home.

James works as a home health aid. Also celebrating at the site is Claudia Perez. Perez works for "Easy Picker" Golf Cart Company and is the proud owner of her 2509 70th Street hime with her two children. At 9:30 a.m., Letecia Maybin and her three children will receive the keys to their new home at 2514 70th Street. Letecia works at Subway. At 10 a.m., Lemetricia Jones and her three children will celebrate in the dedication of their new home at 2507 70th Street. Jones is a Registered Nurse for Lee Memorial Health Center. All four recipients are single parents moving into three bedroom homes.

Habitat for Humanity of Lee County needs volunteers to work on home construction sites throughout Lee County. No construction experience necessary. Habitat Construction Supervisors will teach you what you need to know. Tools will be provided. Groups are always welcome! Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Habitat for Humanity of Lee County is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in Lee County. So far, Habitat has built more than 800 homes in Lee County since 1982. Through the use of volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent housing for families who otherwise could not afford it. Homes are sold to the homeowners at no profit on an interest-free mortgage, making homeownership an affordable reality. In March 2006, Habitat for Humanity International presented Habitat for Humanity of Lee County with its prestigious Affiliate of the Year Award.
