Bruce Springsteen with the Sessions Band
MUSIC REVIEWED BY BOB JONES
Live In Dublin - Sony Music I came a bit late to the table when it comes to Bruce Springsteen. I had heard all of the hits but when a friend insisted I listen to Springsteen's acoustic album
Nebraska on a road trip, it was either listen to Bruce or jump from a moving car, so I listened and I loved it. His first album has become a favorite but he is still a bit hit or miss for me. With Live In Dublin he has made an Americana, roots style record and he covers styles I have never heard from him before. He does a few of his own tunes but most are traditional American folk songs with interesting arrangements. His "Atlantic City" is an upbeat banjo driven number, the gospel number "O Mary Don't You Weep" has a New Orleans feel with horns and accordion, there is also some Irish flavor thrown in to keep the locals happy. Most of the songs that are not Springsteen originals are songs that you may have learned in grade school, like "Erie Canal", "Old Dan Tucker" or "This Little Light Of Mine." It is an interesting collection of songs and there is a DVD of Live In Dublin as well. If you like the acoustic Bruce stuff, this is one you will need the day it comes out.
