BEST THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church was a part of Fort Myers before there was officially a town with the name. The church’s roots go back to 1872, only seven years after the end of the Civil War and 13 years before Fort Myers was incorporated as a town.

The church’s 144-year history ended last May. It was a part of the life of the town. “I have grieved so about it,” Fort Myers resident Sue Grimes, whose family had a 107-year connection to the church, told Florida Weekly last year.
