Fort Myers train station

The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad’s new train Fort Myers train station opened nearly a century ago and spurred development in the city. The station was closed to train track in 1971, sat vacant for roughly a decade and became a history museum in 1982. But in recent years the building needed major renovations and the Southwest Florida Museum of History merged with the Imaginarium in 2015. But the building is saved. The Southwest Florida Community Foundation announced a $10 million deal to restore the old building and move foundation headquarters from south Fort Myers to the renovated building that will include a Collaboratory & Tech Hub. They call it “History in the re-making.”
